===== Pinarello =====

Giovanni Pinarello founded Cicli Pinarello S.p.A. in 1952 in Treviso, Italy((1952 according to [[https://pinarello.com/global/en/pinarello-history|Pinarello]].  1953 elsewhere.)).  after a successful road racing career((Giovanni was most famous for "winning" the Maglia Nera, the last place jersey in the 1951 [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giro_d%27Italia|Gio d'Italia]].)), Giovanni took his race winnings, opened a small bike shop and started producing high end road racing bikes which have gone on to win more Grand Tours than any other manufacturer, including 16 Tours de France ((Pinarellos have won 15 Tours de France according to [[https://mrmamil.com/tour-de-france-winning-bikes/|mrmamil]] while [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinarello|wikipedia]] lists 16.)).  In 2016, Pinarello sold itself to [[https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/pinarello-sells-majority-stake-to-firm-tied-to-louis-vuitton/|LVMH]](([[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LVMH|LVMH]] is currently the 17th largest company in the world.))  with the Pinarello family will continuing to operate the cycling subsidiary.

It's likely that Pinarello first made MTBs starting in 1985.  For many years, Pinarello's catalogs did not sully their beautiful pages with off-road bicycles.  Without catalogs, almost all dates are guesses.
