Selection from the original, non-wiki preface:
The idea is to freely use and give attribution to any corroborating resources on the internet while satisfying the Fair Use doctrine of copyright law:
The fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. copyright.gov
Fair use explicitly allows use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes, such as scholarship and research. Copyright law provides four critera for determination of the fair use exemption:
Thus, this website will be non-profit and created in a spirit of public benefit, scholarship and historical research. It should not overly use images from a single source, use images for buying and selling, nor cause reduced income from any of the image owners. It will not copy text without attribution and only use limited excerpts. Hopefully by well citing sources, such as with links to Amazon, this timeline will cause more interest and purchasing of any original source material.
DMCA takedown notices will be responded to immediately by removing the indicated content, seeking legal counsel, reaching out to the copyright holder, if possible and potential consideration towards filing a counter notice to begin the process of restoration.
This wiki was originally open for users to register, contribute and add comments. Unfortunately, it succumbed to numerous hacking attempts and is currently locked down.
